Women in politics and inter-party dialogue

Since 2023, DLDP has had a joint project in Denmark with the Social Democratic Party, The Conservative People's Party, the Green Left, the Social Liberal Party, and the Red/Green Alliance.

The goal has been to achieve greater representation and influence for women in Denmark and around the world. DLDP is implementing the project at the Centre for Multiparty Democracy Kenya (CMD-K), a cross-political organization working to promote democracy in Kenya.

THE REASON WE SUPPORT DEVELOPMENT IN KENYA

Kristian Nørgaard, Party Secretary of Venstre – The Liberal Party of Denmark:

"Through our organization DLDP, Venstre has been active in democracy development in Kenya for over ten years. We support the development of a well-functioning multiparty democracy and find the collaboration very rewarding. This visit has been particularly valuable as the government has developed a new Africa strategy, where dialogue with our partners is of significant importance."

Lasse Ryberg, Party Secretary of the Social Democrats:

"The Social Democrats in Denmark have more than 150 years of experience showing that local political work in a formal structure is crucial for the development and maintenance of a popularly rooted democracy. That’s why we participate in this project, where experiences are shared to strengthen local parties, structures, and activities in Kenya."

Rolf Aagaard-Svendsen, Chairman of the International Committee in the Conservative People’s Party:

"Although imperfect, a liberal multiparty democracy is the best foundation for civil rights, freedom, peace, and welfare. Well-functioning democratic parties are the key to a well-functioning democracy, and that’s why this is an important project that we are happy to contribute to."

Marianne Victor Hansen, International Consultant at SF – The Green Left:

"SF is active in the project because the Kenyan parties have sought inspiration from our four Danish parties on how to strengthen and inspire better local anchoring of the Kenyan parties. SF is pleased that experiences from municipalities in formulating and communicating local policies and engaging citizens and members actively in the party’s local branches can be used in Kenya."
